New The Darkness Music Continues to Underwhelm

Queen just called. They want their filler back.
When the British glam-rock inspired group The Darkness announced they would be reuniting, I was pretty excited. I wasn't one of those people who raved about them when they first came on the scene (and quickly disbanded), but I appreciated their ability to recreate the 70's glam sound, paying homage to the likes of Queen and David Bowie. Now, I'm sure you've all heard of a little song called "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", and I feel the majority of Permission to Land is pretty enjoyable. This gave me good reason to believe that their new material would feel just as exciting as their previous work. So color me disappointed when the first two singles failed to get me excited for a new The Darkness album, with the latest continuing that trend.

You can listen to the band's newest single "Everybody Have A Good Time" right here if you so desire. In all fairness, its better than the previous two songs they've released, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" and "Every Inch of You", but it still sounds half-baked and boring to me. Permission to Land had a lot of energy  and felt genuine, whereas theses feel totally uninspired and just sort of thrown together. The part that really bums me out is that these songs have some good ideas that don't really go anywhere. It makes me wonder why theses guys reunited in the first place if they didn't have any real fresh ideas.

Still, I should reserve final judgement for when The Darkness releases its upcoming album Hot Cakes August 21.
